Grade and pack decide the price

Buyers pay for a grade, not for mushrooms. Cap size, a closed veil, cleanliness, even colour and correct pack weight decide which price band you land in.

ICAR-DMR records the packs actually used in Indian local markets: retail packs of 200 g or 400 g in thin polythene. TNAU's oyster practice is a 200 g bag. For fresh oyster, DMR specifies perforated bags with a vent area of about 5% of the surface.
