How to photograph a crop problem

One close-up is rarely enough. Capture pattern, scale, a healthy comparison and environmental context—without contaminating the crop.

    Whole room or bed

    Establish the scale and distribution of the problem before moving closer.

  2. 02

    Affected rack and layer

    Show the exact rack, layer or bed zone and its relation to airflow and work paths.

  3. 03

    Affected cluster

    Record the affected group without selecting only the most dramatic specimen.

  4. 04

    Close-up with colour fidelity

    Preserve colour and morphology; avoid filters and exaggerated saturation.

  5. 05

    Healthy comparison

    Use the same stage and similar lighting so the comparison is meaningful.

  6. 06

    Relevant sensor or equipment

    Include the reading, position, time and unit—not only the instrument display.

Do

  • Use neutral, consistent lighting
  • Keep the original file unchanged
  • Record broad location, date, species and crop stage
  • Use a hygienic scale reference only when safe
  • Note sensor position and calibration status

Do not

  • Apply colour filters
  • Stage symptoms or move contamination
  • Expose faces, plates, addresses or client boards
  • Name a disease from colour alone
  • Submit precise GPS unless intentionally required
