Practical workbook

Run a first batch of ten blocks

Record: Sawdust species, mix weights, moisture and pH, sterilising pressure and time, spawn date.

  1. Weigh sawdust, bran and calcium carbonate to the DMR ratio.

  2. Check moisture by the squeeze test and note the pH.

  3. Fill ten bags within six hours of mixing and sterilise them.

  4. Spawn after cooling and label each bag with the date.

  5. Photograph the blocks weekly to track coat, bumps and browning.
