DPR & Bank Readiness

A detailed project report is not a brochure. It is a set of numbers that must agree with each other, and later with the bills you produce.

01The template is blank on purpose

NHB's 2018 model report for mushroom production technology is a structure, not an answer sheet. Its financial tables are left empty for the applicant, which means the assumptions are yours to state and yours to defend.

The document does supply technical anchors you can cite: strain by strain yields under Indian conditions, spawn incubation at 25 to 27 °C, a planning target of at least six crops per room per year, and the six project components.

Use those as your basis and say where every other number came from. One note of caution: the spawn cold storage figure printed as 0.4 °C is almost certainly 0 to 4 °C.

02One yield, one price, every table

The commonest reason a mushroom report fails is internal contradiction. The production table states one yield, the revenue table implies another, and the repayment schedule needs a third.

Pick one yield with a named source, for example the NHB range for your chosen strain, and carry it into production, revenue, working capital and repayment without changing it. Do the same with price and with cycles per year.

A reviewer tests consistency before plausibility, because it takes two minutes and it shows at once whether the numbers were built or borrowed.

03What a lender reads for

Beyond the tables, a bank reads for evidence that you have thought about what goes wrong. Write the promoter background and any training completed. Write the technical process stage by stage with its temperature bands. Write the market section with named buyers and dated rates. Write the risk section with its early warning signals.

  • Promoter, training, land papers and approvals.

04Make your assumptions visible

Every number belongs to one of two lists: sourced or assumed. Write both lists as an annexure.

A sourced number carries the document name, such as the ICAR-DMR manual or NHB's model report, and the figure as printed. An assumed number carries the reason for it and the person who will test it.

Growers fear that showing assumptions weakens a file. The opposite happens. A file that marks its assumptions reads as careful, while a file where every number looks equally certain invites a reviewer to test all of them.

One hour consistency check

  1. Highlight the yield figure everywhere it appears in your draft.
  2. Highlight the price figure everywhere it appears.
  3. Correct every table that disagrees, then write the source at the first appearance.
  4. Split the remaining numbers into a sourced list and an assumed list.

Write in your farm diary: Yield and source, price and source, tables corrected, assumption list with owners.

Mistakes that cost a crop

  • Copying a report from another district and leaving its yields and prices inside.
  • Changing the yield between the production table and the repayment schedule.
  • Attaching no quotations, so every cost in the report is only an opinion.
